1. Cleanse and pat skin mostly dry. A little dampness helps the oils spread.

Prickly pear seed oil
The rarest oil in the blend, and one of the most expensive botanical oils in the world. The seeds are tiny and yield very little, so it takes a staggering amount of cactus fruit to press a single liter.
What makes it worth it: it's naturally one of the richest plant sources of vitamin E, including the less common gamma-tocopherol, and it's high in linoleic acid, the fatty acid your skin barrier relies on to hold moisture in. It also carries phytosterols, plant compounds that help skin feel calm and supple.

For mature skin: Helps skin look plumper and more hydrated, softens the look of fine lines around the eyes, and brightens a dull, tired-looking complexion. It's light and absorbs quickly, so it never feels heavy.

Pomegranate seed oil
Pomegranate seed oil is unusual. Most of it is punicic acid, a rare omega-5 fatty acid found in very few plants. It's one reason this oil has drawn attention in skin research for decades.

For mature skin: Supports a firmer, more resilient-feeling surface, helps skin look less reactive and more even, and gives the blend a rich, conditioning feel that helps with crepey, thin-looking skin.

Rosehip seed oil
The long-standing favorite of estheticians for tone and texture. Cold-pressed rosehip carries essential fatty acids (linoleic and alpha-linolenic) along with naturally occurring carotenoids, the plant precursors of vitamin A.

Castor seed oil
Nearly 90% ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid that's thick, cushioning and very good at slowing water loss from skin. Grandmothers used it for a reason.

For mature skin: It's the anchor of the formula. Castor oil forms a soft, breathable layer that keeps the lighter oils and bakuchiol on your skin through the night, so less of it ends up on your pillow. Skin wakes up feeling soft and cushioned.

Sea buckthorn fruit oil
That warm amber color in the serum comes from sea buckthorn. The fruit oil is one of the few plant sources of palmitoleic acid (omega-7), a fatty acid that's also part of your skin's own natural oils. It's also dense with carotenoids and vitamin E.

For mature skin: Helps replenish dry, depleted-feeling skin, adds a healthy, lit-from-within glow, and gives the blend a deep antioxidant backbone.

Bakuchiol
A plant compound often called the gentle alternative to retinol. In a 12-week clinical study published in the British Journal of Dermatology, bakuchiol and retinol produced similar improvements in the look of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. The bakuchiol group reported less dryness and stinging.

For mature skin: Smoother-looking texture, softer-looking lines and more even tone, without the peeling, redness and "retinol uglies" so many women over 45 have given up on. Bakuchiol is oil-soluble, so it dissolves fully into the blend and goes on evenly with every drop.

Vitamin E
